Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh, DSAP!  I am on the board of this local Pittsburgh organization that looks to support, educate, and advocate for the many individuals with Down syndrome within the greater Pittsburgh region as well as their families and friends.  They provide thoughtful programming that helps to promote inclusion and awareness, while also providing valuable life skills and support as our members and families grow.  They are part of a national network of Down syndrome organizations supporting research, advocacy, and education. 

For those of you that do not know this about me, my big sister, Lauren, has Down syndrome.  She is an incredible sibling to me and is my biggest cheerleader!  I can always count on her to give me a pep talk when I am nervous or to be the loudest cheerer when something incredible happens in my life.  Growing up beside her and all her friends has given me such insight into the boundless capabilities and compassion individuals with Down syndrome have for their family, friends, and communities.  In order to show my appreciation for all she has done for me, I give my time back to the community by participating on the board of directors for DSAP.

This organization is doing incredible work within the Pittsburgh community.  DSAP provides programing that develops independent living skills such as cooking classes for our members.  We also run the family connection program which fosters community and provides spaces for support and insight.  For new and expecting parents, DSAP funds the First Call program which provides expecting and new parents with a welcome box of resources and gifts while also pairing them with more experienced parents to be mentors who have gone through a similar experience.  This is just the tip of programs though that your donation would support.

These programs are vital for the continued growth of Pittsburgh's Down syndrome community and I thus have two separate asks of you today.  One, if you are able to, I am looking for your financial contribution to help continue to grow this organization's reach and impact.  My second ask is to get out and participate in your local Buddy walk to show your support for individuals with Down syndrome.  If you are local to the Pittsburgh region, you can come and join my team on October 19th and walk with me to show your support for the Down syndrome community of Pittsburgh.
