Given the size and scale of our annual Triangle Buddy Walk® and the unknowns related to COVID-19, the Buddy Walk Committee is currently planning this year’s Buddy walk with two different scenarios. Whichever one occurs...it is going to be EPIC!!! Stay Tuned for lots of fun, celebration, and engagement over the next couple of months!

Scenario A: In-Person event on a large-scale event using Social distancing guidelines. We will be having a parking lot tailgating party and a 1.5-mile Car Parade instead of our usual Buddy Walk. The event will be designed to keep teams in place with minimal congregation. The day of celebration will look completely different, but we will still have a celebration. We will also have a virtual walk live-streamed for those that have concerns about celebrating in person

Scenario B: If a large-scale in-person event is deemed unsafe then we will proceed with a virtual event. Each Buddy Walk Team will receive a “Buddy Walk in a Box” kit. We will ask that families plan to tailgate at their home or desired location and live stream. We will then walk together at 3:21 PM. We will have a virtual awards ceremony with special visits from the NCDSA Board and Staff. 

Either way...this year, we are bringing the walk to you in your community, wherever you are in North Carolina! When the walk registration opens  you will see some special details like:

  • Registration is still FREE this Year!

  • T-shirts can be purchased and shipped or picked up at one of the local pre-event celebrations near you.

  • Team captains will receive a “Buddy Walk in a BOX celebration package with yard signs, NCDSA merchandise, and special gifts for you, your family, and your team!

  • On October 4th, we will have our biggest celebration EVER with a truly STATEWIDE event packed with live/live-streamed entertainment, special guests, self-advocate speakers, and more!
