Micah's Warriors

Hey Friends, I wanted to share with you that our annual buddy walk fundraiser has started up again. For those of you who don’t know me and my family’s story and you're also new to our team. I would like to share my story behind the Buddy Walk and why I walk in honor of my brother Micah Gray.

My brother Micah was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth and that forever changed our lives for the better. Some may say that having a child or sibling with Down syndrome is challenging, sometimes difficult, but I beg to differ. Micah truly changed my life and my family’s lives for the better. Sadly to say, Micah passed away in November 22nd of 2019, at 6 years old. I am so thankful and blessed that God gave me and my family such a beautiful little boy that was the true example of LOVE and JOY. He is the reason why I am who I am today and why I’m so involved and invested in helping others with Down syndrome, and giving back to the DSAJ community. Micah taught me about patience, kindness, unconditional love, and to always smile in adversity.

Crazy to think, a little 6 year old boy with Down Syndrome could teach me all of this without being able to talk that much. Through his smile and actions this little boy changed our world. The day he was born, people would say and tell me that, “He would need you so much in his life to get to where he needs to be.” But, they were wrong, I needed him more than him needing me. God knew what I needed in my life to change me and set me apart from others. And, God sent down the most precious blessing that me and my family could have ever received in this life time, my sweet brother Micah.

So, why I do the Buddy Walk every year? Why am I so passionate about Down syndrome? Why do I advocate for Down syndrome? Why do I want to give back my time to such a great community of people? Well, because my brother Micah is my WHY and my reasoning behind all that I do and that my family do in this life time. This is my #WhyIWalk story.

 We are walking to show our support for my late baby brother Micah and more than 400,000 other individuals with Down syndrome in the U.S. Every dollar we raise brings us one step closer to ensuring that our child and every individual will have the opportunity to reach their potential.

There is NO PRESSURE, don't feel obligated to donate. If God is calling you to donate, then awesome donate, but if not that is okay as well. I'm just thankful that I had the opportunity to share this information and my story with you.

Our fundraising efforts will support local programs and services, as well as National Down Syndrome Society advocacy and public awareness initiatives that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome.
