Team LEXI

Profile Image

Welcome to our Delaware Down Syndrome Walk & 5K team fundraising page! We are participating to show our support for our child and more than 400,000 other individuals with Down syndrome in the U.S. Every dollar we raise brings us one step closer to ensuring that our child and every individual will have the opportunity to reach their potential.

Our fundraising efforts will support local programs and services, as well as advocacy and public awareness initiatives that benefit all individuals with Down syndrome in our community.

Make your tax-deductible donation today and take the first step toward helping us achieve our goal. Thank you for your support!

Lexi stood up on her own and took her steps to her sister and as a family I don’t think we could be any prouder. She has worked so hard for this and so has her amazing team of therapists.

There was some gagging, some choking, a few tears, but no puking and overall she was happy and it was a pleasant feeding experience. If you have a kiddo with food aversions or feeding issues you know what a triumph this video is. I’m just soaking it in 💕

Late night this past Thursday Lexi and I in the er at Tidal health waiting on her test results. Luckily they were able to catch the pneumonia quick and Lexi had her first does of antibiotics within 3 hours of her admission to the er. What followed was hours of waiting to decide if we would stay at Tidal or be transferred to Nemours. Lex spent the night sleeping on me in the Er and at 9 am on Friday the decision was made that she could be admitted to tidal for the rest of the antibiotics and monitoring. Here’s the vulnerable part- . It never gets easier. This weekend is already difficult enough for me with the realization that it been 6 years as of tomorrow since my best friend also passed away suddenly. I guess this weekend just hit me hard. I was very thankful today to be surrounded by my family celebrating my father’s 70th birthday though and I do want to thank my sister for making the trip down here on a holiday weekend 💕

On the mend after her strep throat diagnosis. Talking and signing away. Thankful for speech therapy and Sarah Walker. She’s already figuring out that asking for food at bedtime is a great way to get out of going to sleep 🤣

This girl is going big things over here. To the untrained eye it might just look like a 23 month old toddler eating a cookie but to those of us who have been watching Lexi work we know that eating has been a struggle and her g-tube has been her lifeline. Watching her take a bite of something, chew, and swallow was almost too good to be true. This big thanks goes out to her feeding and speech therapist Sarah Walker who works with Lexi twice a week and supports us the rest of the time even attending GI and nutrition Appointments if necessary. She has gone above and beyond for our girl Lexi and I can’t thank her enough.

I can’t even tell you how full this makes my heart. As I watch Lexi take this steps, on her own, with happy tears in my eyes, all I could think of was the first line of a song I sang to her night after night in the NICU “lookout kid, trust your heart. You don’t have to play the part they wrote for you…” Love this girl. And a big shoutout to her physical therapist Donna and my parents for working with her day after day.
