Walk Day Information

The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk to promote the understanding, inclusion and acceptance of people with Down syndrome. The DSA of Delaware will host its annual Buddy Walk at Silver Lake Park. More than 2,500 people are expected to participate by walking, volunteering or collecting donations in the name of their Team. The event includes free activities and entertainment for toddlers to teenagers. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and plan to spend the day.

Registration begins at 10:30 am

If you are registering on event day, please bring your completed registration form and payment to the registration tent. T-shirts will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis as supplies last. If you registered by May 3rd, you are guaranteed a t-shirt.

Early T-shirt Pick-up

All pre-registered walkers may pick up their t-shirt on Friday, May 17th from 4 pm to 7 pm at the event site at Silver Lake Park, Middletown.

The Walk begins at 12 noon

This is what it’s all about! Meet your Buddy (person with Down syndrome) or team in front of the stage at 11:55 pm for the opening ceremony and one-mile walk.

Team Spirit Awards

How much spirit do you have? Create your own motivational signs and banners to show off as you walk the mile. Spirit judges will be located near the track to select the teams who demonstrate the most spirit during the walk. Return to the stage at 1:30 pm for the presentation of the Spirit Award winners.Go Team…..Go Buddies!

Buddy Blast 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free activities for toddlers to teenagers including: carnival games, crafts, face painting, moon bounce, obstacle course, dancing and more. Food and beverage will be available for purchase from an assortment of vendors.

Silent Auction and Raffles 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Silent auction and raffle items include team baskets of varying themes, tickets to shows and sporting events, memorabilia, baskets of cheer, and more. Raffle tickets are 1 for $2 or an arm’s length for $10. Auctions and raffles close at 2:00pm. Winners will be posted at 2:30pm and are welcome to pick up their prizes at that time.

Take Your Team to the Tavern

Friday, April 26th from 6–9 pm rally your 2019 Buddy Walk team with an adult night out  at Catherine Rooney’s on Delaware Avenue in Wilmington. Baskets of Cheer and other items will be raffled off during the night. All tips and proceeds from a specialty drink will be donated to the Buddy Walk. Appetizers will be served. Participants must be 21 or older.

Buddy Walk Challenge

Win a trip to the 2019 National Down Syndrome Congress Convention in Pittsburgh, PA, June 27 - 30, 2019. A trip for two will be awarded to the team who raises the most in registrations and donations by 11:59 pm on May 18th. All donations and registration must be received by this date and time to be eligible for the Challenge. Challenge Guidelines.

The Buddy Walk is more than just a walk, it’s more than just an event. The Buddy Walk is the means in which the DSA of Delaware serves its families and the community. Your sponsorship can help have a direct impact on our families. There are several levels of event sponsorship available to fit your business or company. Please refer to our Sponsorship Packet for more details.

T-shirt Sponsorship

Support your team and promote your company at the same time. Unlike Event Sponsorships donations from t-shirt sponsors are applied to team totals. For just $500 your company logo can appear on the back of the 2019 Buddy Walk Event T-shirts or for $250 your company name can be listed. T-shirt sponsors must submit their logo or name with payment, no later than April 24th.
