Sensory-Friendly Opportunities
Sponsored by
DSACO promotes inclusion and in order to fully include all at the Columbus Buddy Walk, we are working to create spaces for individuals who may have a harder time with loud noises and crowds and take additional steps at creating a sensory-friendly environment. Here’s how we plan to support your experience at the 2022 Columbus Buddy Walk:
Sensory-Friendly Spaces:
- I Am Boundless Quiet Room: If you need some quiet time or a break from the hustle and bustle of the Buddy Walk, stop by the I Am Boundless Quiet Room located inside the building off the Courtyard at Fortress Obetz. This quiet, air-conditioned space will offer a variety of low-tech solutions to support sensory needs, including puzzles, soft surfaces, and other sensory supports.
- Shaded Space on the Turf Field: DSACO is creating a shaded space outside on the turf field for times when a break is needed while out enjoying activities on the turf field. This space will have sensory-friendly activities available for a quick break before resuming activity. This space will also feature handlers with their therapy dogs.
Calm Down Kits:
To be conscientious of COVID-19, DSACO will prepare Calm Down Kits to provide to each individual who needs one. Kits will include things like: ear plugs, fidgets, squeeze ball, calm down cards and a parking pass to allow families to park closer to the Fortress. These items will be kept with the individual and not shared. Please pre-order your kit by clicking the link below. You may order as many as you need for your team members. Kits can be picked up on T-Shirt Pick Up Day or at the Walk.
