Buddy Walk® in Bloomington
Car Parade

Monroe County Fairgrounds

Sunday, October 3, 2021
Gates open at 1:30 pm, Parade begins at 3pm

The annual Buddy Walk® in Bloomington is more than a walk, it's a family reunion. Whether you have Down syndrome, know someone who does or just want to show your support – we invite you to join us on October 3rd for our 2021 Buddy Walk Car Parade, as we unite for a common cause and raise funds to support Down Syndrome Family Connection. October is Down Syndrome Awareness month, so what better time to celebrate!

DSFC is very excited about the modified plan for a socially-distanced fun event… this year's Buddy Walk will be a ride instead of a walk! Each team will be assigned a parking area which will serve as the team's home base during the event. Attendees can stay in their cars or sit outside but all team members should stay in their assigned area. When the “walk” begins at 3pm, we will release each team individually to drive along the parade route, which will include stations of various entertainment to enjoy as you pass. But the team vehicles will also be part of the parade… we encourage everyone to decorate your vehicles and make them as much like a parade float as possible - you can even pull a trailer, or wagon behind your vehicle! Teams will be able to see each other as they circle the route, waving and saying hi from a safe distance away in your vehicle.

Between 1:30-3, there will be food trucks available, and we invite teams to create your own party in your area… enjoy food from the vendors, maybe play some games, or just sit and chat. We ask that all team captains decide how socially distanced they need their team to be within their area; masks will be required of all attendees based on the guidance of the health department at that time.

DSFC has designed a new 2021 Buddy Walk shirt for purchase if you’d like to encourage your team to wear them; you are also free to design your own team shirt or invite your team to wear their favorite shirt from a past Buddy Walk. All people with a disability can receive a free shirt if registered in advance by September 15th.

If you prefer not to attend the big event, teams may also do a walk or other event of your choice, with as few or as many other people as you feel comfortable given the current social distancing guidelines. You can also just do online fundraising if preferred. Whatever you decide, share your plans on your fundraising page, through email and social media, and ask family, friends, neighbors and coworkers for their support!

We will be sharing more details, fun tips, etc. in emails to the address you use in registering, and also on Facebook… so be sure to watch your inbox.

Thank you for your continued support of Down Syndrome Family Connection. We look forward to celebrating all of our extraordinary family members and friends with Down syndrome on October 3rd!
