The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. Today the Buddy Walk® program is supported nationally by NDSS and organized at the local level by parent support groups, schools, and other organizations and individuals.
Funds raised in 2016 were used to provide immediate information and assistance to new families and to many families during times of crisis, fund social events for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, fund monthly age-level groups for children and their families, provide scholarships for camps and conferences and to provide education materials and resources to the community.
The Buddy Walk® is a walk in which anyone can participate without special training. It is a day filled with family fun activities along with educators, therapists and vendors from our community willing to provide resources and share information as needed. Whether you have Down syndrome, adore someone who does or just want to show your support, come and join the 2017 Atlanta Buddy Walk®!
