WHAT  Every year the Alaska Down Syndrome Network hosts a walk to bring the community together to spread awareness, support, and advocacy for Down Syndrome. This year the walk will take place in Wasilla!!  Come show your support for the Down Syndrome community, help us fundraise, and socialize!

What to expect….inflatable bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, face painting, vendor info booths, yard games/activities, food, and a raffle for fabulous prizes! 

WHEN  The walk will take place on June 29th from 11am-3pm. Stay tuned for a detailed itinerary!!

WHERE  Join us at Iditapark in Wasilla (500 W. Nelson Avenue).  The event will take place at the east end of the park, as shown below in the park map (red square).   There is plenty of parking around the park, be on the lookout for signs to help guide you to the event location.

WHO  The Alaska Walk for Down Syndrome is hosted by the Alaska Down Syndrome Network (AKDSN). Since 1988, the AKDSN has provided parent support and public awareness to improve the quality of life for those with Down syndrome in Alaska. The mission of the AKDSN is to provide education and information for members, new partners and the community as a whole; to give parent-to-parent support to families of children with Down Syndrome; to gather socially and share experiences; and to be an advocacy group for individuals with Down Syndrome. 

WHY  Proceeds from the Alaska Walk for Down Syndrome are used to fund several initiatives benefitting the local Down syndrome community throughout the year. Programs like:

• Scholarships - Members can apply for scholarships to be used for such things as sports equipment, lessons, therapy, medicines, special toys, or tailored clothes. 
• Social Events - Social events are a great way to bring the Down Syndrome community together for fun and support.
• Educational Events - Funds can support the attendance to conferences that provide great information to the network and it’s members or host guest speakers in Alaska.
• Educational Material - Providing educational material to our surrounding clinics and therapy offices is a great way to provide support to the Down Syndrome community.

How do I join in on all the fun? 

You can start a fundraising team, join an existing fundraising team, or register as an individual. It's up to you! Click HERE to get started. If you plan to attend the Alaska Walk for Down Syndrome, you must register.

How much does it cost? 

Early Bird (Includes a FREE GIFT shown on the right. Colors available will be on a first come, first serve basis) - Early bird ENDS 5/15

• AGE 18+ : $10
• AGE 18+ Reduced Fee Option: $5

We don't want ticket prices to restrict attendance or team support, therefore a reduced fee option is available to all our guests as needed.

Individual with Down Syndrome: Registration is FREE and includes a t-shirt which is selected as part of registration. 

What do I get with my registration? You get full access to the biggest and best celebration of Alaska’s Down Syndrome Network!!   That means free lunch, free sweet treats, free swag at the registration desk, free access to all activities and info booths, participation in the raffle (raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event), and lots of fun!! 

Individuals with Down Syndrome will receive a FREE T-shirt and swag bag!!

Can I buy a 2024 Walk T-shirt? You will have the option to pre-order tee via the link below.  All pre-orders will be shipped directly to you! Deadline to pre-order a 2024 walk t-shirt is June 8th to ensure you get the shirt in time for the walk!!  Please note: individuals with Down syndrome only will select their free t-shirt during registration.

T-shirts can be purchased after registration is complete, via a third party website. T-shirts are not purchased as part of the walk registration process.

FAQs

How do I customize my team's fundraising page? Once registered, you will see "Fundraising Page Set Up" at the top of your receipt. Click there to start customizing your team's page. Once done, be sure to share your page with friends and family.

What if I am a returning Team Captain? Welcome back! You can sign in to your existing account in Step 2 of registration. Forgot your username/password? Click HERE. 

Can I register more than one person at a time? Absolutely! In Step 3 of registration, click “Add Another Registrant”.

What if I can't attend but still want to show my support? You're so sweet. You can show your support by donating to an individual or team by finding them on the “Teams/People” page and clicking the “Donate” button next to their name. Or, you can make a general donation by clicking DONATE NOW.
